On October 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Botai,” at the Akan Seri House of Culture in Saumalkol village, Aiyrtau District, North Kazakhstan Region, held an International Scientific-Practical Conference in online and offline formats titled “Archaeological Research in Kazakhstan: History, Trends, Problems, Prospects,” dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the memory of the Kazakh archaeologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Archaeology V.F. Zaibert.

In the first part of the conference, an exhibition was held on the topic “Botai. At the origins of steppe civilization,” as well as master classes on leather processing, the production of ceramic items from clay, the making of discs using a drilling machine, and an exhibition of drawings on the topic “The world significance of Botai archaeological culture” from the North Kazakhstan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore. This large-scale event was followed by a plenary session, which was joined via ZOOM by Dr. Giedrė Motuzaite, Associate Professor of Vilnius University and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Lithuania, and Alan Outram, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Exeter, as well as domestic archaeologists, scientists, lecturers and researchers from national higher education institutions, representatives of republican, regional, and district executive authorities, researchers and specialists from departments and centers for the protection and use of historical and cultural heritage sites, master’s and doctoral students of Kazakh higher education institutions, cultural figures, local historians, and public figures, representatives of the administration of the North Kazakhstan Region, workers in culture and education, museum organizations, and historians.

In the second part of the conference, two sections were held. The first section discussed the topic “Research and promotion of Kazakh archaeology,” while the second section focused on “The importance of protecting and using historical and cultural monuments.”

During the conference, issues related to the development of Kazakh archaeology were discussed through the exchange and analysis of scientific results from foreign and domestic archaeological expeditions, as well as the activities of research laboratories, institutes, and museums.
