The Republican State Enterprise “State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve ‘Botai’” of the Committee of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in accordance with a mutual agreement with the Republican State Enterprise State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Sarayshyk,” presented a traveling exhibition titled “Ботай мұрасы – ұрпаққа аманат” from February 24 to March 9, 2023 at the local history museum of the Makhambet District in the Atyrau Region. The exhibition was dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Botai and Sarayshyk museum-reserves and aimed at popularizing the unique Eneolithic archaeological site.

The Botai culture is an archaeological culture identified by V. F. Zaibert based on materials from excavated sites in Northern Kazakhstan dating to the Eneolithic period. The uniqueness and significance of the Botai culture lie in the fact that it was here, for the first time in the world, that the horse was domesticated and the first dwellings of nomadic peoples were created. In 2017, the Botai archaeological settlement was included in the national list of sacred sites of Kazakhstan. In 2018, within the framework of the “Rukhani Zhangyru” program, the Republican State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Botai” was established, which presented this exhibition.

Residents and visitors of the Makhambet District had a unique opportunity to become acquainted with this sacred site and invaluable artifacts discovered during archaeological excavations at the Botai settlement.

The exhibition received wide positive feedback and was visited by more than 600 people.
